Life Before Death

Life Before Death was a sermon series through the book of Ecclesiastes — a raw, reflective exploration of what it means to truly live in light of mortality. The design needed to hold the tension between beauty and brevity, wisdom and despair, ultimately pointing toward the hope found in a life anchored to God.

You only live once. Just not how you think.

Ecclesiastes confronts the ache of existence — the brevity of life, the futility of work, the inevitability of death — yet it also reveals an invitation to joy. Life Before Death visualizes that paradox through a design that’s both stark and symbolic. At the heart of the mark is an hourglass, half filled with a skull and half with a rose — death and life sharing the same space. The rose blooms where time runs out, reminding us that life’s meaning is not found in escaping mortality but in embracing it through reverence, gratitude, and worship. Design details reinforce that theme: • The Rose and the Skull: Paired within the hourglass, they capture the tension of Ecclesiastes — beauty emerging from decay. • Typography & Composition: The classic serif type feels literary and contemplative, while the pink circle behind it breaks the somber tone with warmth and hope. • Contrast & Symbolism: Black and white evoke the stark reality of death; the soft pink introduces grace — the divine intrusion of joy amid futility. The visual system translates across slides, apparel, and social media, carrying the same philosophical tone as Ecclesiastes itself — grounded, reflective, and quietly subversive. Life Before Death invites the viewer to stop chasing meaning and start receiving it — to live fully, not after death, but before it.
