SubZero
Over a decade ago, I helped launch Subzero, a winter retreat designed to bring high school students from multiple churches together for a weekend of teaching, worship, and community. What began as an idea has grown into an enduring event that’s still going strong today, with hundreds of students gathering each January.

Crtv Dir / Branding
A bold brand for a retreat that outlasts the cold.
The branding for Subzero needed to capture both the energy of a high school retreat and the grit of winter. The identity system I designed uses retro-inspired color palettes, geometric mountain motifs, and versatile mark variations to create a look that feels adventurous, approachable, and instantly recognizable. The mark set includes multiple badge-style logos, typography lockups, and supporting icons—allowing the Subzero brand to flex across posters, social media, apparel, signage, and retreat materials. The color scheme, anchored in deep blues with bold red, orange, and yellow accents, communicates both warmth and contrast against the retreat’s snowy backdrop. Beyond the visuals, the Subzero brand has become part of the event’s legacy. Students now associate the iconography with memories of late-night games, powerful worship sessions, and lasting friendships. For me, it was especially meaningful to design an identity for something I helped create years earlier, and to see how the branding continues to serve a retreat that has shaped countless students’ lives.
