Objective:
The Lausanne Movement aimed to develop a set of custom icons and seamless patterns that reflect their vision and values, incorporating elements from their existing branding, such as dot patterns. The design needed to be personal, fresh, and artistic—avoiding a childish or overly simplistic appearance. The icons were to be used primarily on the web, with print-quality files available for broader applications.

Design Solution:
The final deliverables included an icon set with four variations: Black Stroke, White Stroke, White Fill, and Color. To achieve the desired hand-drawn feel, each icon was designed with multiple stroke widths and value variations, creating a sense of depth and texture. This approach gave the icons an organic, handcrafted look that aligned with the artistic and personal vibe specified in the brief. Key concepts represented in the icons include the globe, gospel, reaching people, and a network of people, which are central to the Lausanne Movement’s mission. Additionally, the set included patterns that integrate these icons into cohesive, engaging designs.

Design Features:

  • Stroke Variation: Icons were drawn with varying stroke widths to emphasize a hand-drawn, custom feel, adding layers of detail and character to each design. This subtle variation in line weight mimics the nuances of hand-drawn artwork, enhancing the personal touch of each icon.
  • Icon Variations: Four styles—Black Stroke, White Stroke, White Fill, and Color—offer flexibility for diverse applications across digital and print media.
  • Consistency and Branding: Incorporating dot patterns and elements inspired by the Lausanne logo helped maintain a cohesive look, reinforcing the movement’s visual identity.
  • Seamless Patterns: Custom seamless patterns were created, bringing together the icons to form visually engaging backgrounds that depict the interconnected nature of the Issue Networks. These patterns are scalable and adaptable for various formats, from social media graphics to print.

Outcome:
The project successfully delivered a versatile and visually compelling icon set that enhances the Lausanne Movement’s brand identity. The hand-drawn quality of the icons, achieved through varied stroke widths, adds a unique, artistic dimension that resonates with the movement’s values and mission. The seamless patterns further unify the Issue Networks visually, providing a consistent design language that communicates the collective focus on fulfilling the Great Commission.
